UPDATE – An appeal from the La Loche shooter to be sentenced as a youth will not be heard by the Supreme Court of Canada.
The now 22-year-old identified as Randan Dakota Fontaine, had his first request denied last year by the Saskatchewan Court of Appeal.
The shooter was just over a week shy of turning 18 in January of 2016 when he shot and killed two bothers in La Loche before gunning down a teacher and teachers aide at the school in the remote northern community.
He pleaded guilty to first and second degree murder as well as attempted murder.
The shooters lawyer had been trying to convince the court to sentence him as a youth, and take the boy’s mental and cognitive disabilities into consideration.
The shooter was sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole for ten years.
