Federal aid coming to support clean-up of orphan wells

The Prime Minister says more federal aid is coming to several provinces, including Saskatchewan, Alberta and B.C.

At his daily coronavirus briefing in Ottawa, Justin Trudeau says energy companies have had to slow down, throwing people out of work, and threatening the economy.

“To help these workers, our government will invest $1.7-billion to clean up and orphaned and inactive wells in Alberta, Saskatchewan and B.C.,” Trudeau stated. “These wells, which are no longer in use can be detrimental not only to our environment but to our health,” Trudeau added.

Another $750-million will be spent on an emission reduction program, Trudeau said because of this 10,000 jobs will be saved.
