Sask dairy producers make major donation to Sask food banks

Saskatchewan Dairy producers are donating products from 175 thousand litres of milk to food banks across the province.

The closure of restaurants from covid-19 caused reduced demand for dairy products.

Producers were forced to dump a small percentage of milk for about a week and a half across Western Canada.

SaskMilk policy and research manager Joy Smith says an agreement with processors, truckers and dairy producers has been reached for a major donation to local food banks.

Smith says the 175 thousand litres of raw milk will be turned into 38 thousand pounds of product including cheese, yogurt and milk products for food banks across Saskatchewan.

Smith says the donations will start to flow to food banks across Saskatchewan this week.
