Kindersley RCMP officer shoots charging dog during conditions check

Kindersley RCMP say a dog from a residence in town was euthanized by animal control after an RCMP officer fired a bullet at the rushing animal during a house check.

The incident happened on April 23 when RCMP officers visited a home to run a conditions check on an individual that was recently released from custody.

In a release from the Kindersley RCMP detachment, police entered the residence to check the the individual’s compliance with the order when a “large aggressive dog” in the home confronted them.

The release goes on to say that the dog managed to free from an occupant in the home and charged towards the open door where the officers were standing.

While retreating from the dog, one police officer shot a single round from his pistol and hit the dog, which stopped the animal from charging.

Animal control officers were later called in to euthanize the dog.

RCMP say the incident is under investigation and will include a review from an independent RCMP officer.
