Regina Police SWAT, Canine and Crisis teams respond to incident on Robinson Street

Several people were taken into custody after Regina Police were called to a residence on the 1400 block of Robinson Street Monday night.

SWAT, Canine and Crisis Negotiators all responded to the incident, those living in the area were asked to shelter in place while motorists and pedestrians were asked to avoid the area.

 

UPDATE: three men and two women have been arrested and charged in connection to the incident.

A man had called police at around 5:15 PM saying he had been assaulted and had his life threatened. The victim also reported that there were several suspects and another victim inside of a residence.

Officers learned there was a possibility of firearms and other weapons inside of the house. The second victim emerged from the house after a short amount of time.

Initial attempts by officers to get the suspects out of the house were unsuccessful, which resulted in SWAT, Canine and crisis negotiator units to be called.

At roughly 10:00 PM, tear gas was deployed into the home and police were able to arrest a total of eight people. Afterwards, three people were released without charges.

A warrant was issued to search the residence at roughly 2:00 AM on Tuesday morning. Officers located a machete and ammunition.

24 year-old Destin Doherty, 23 year-old Ethan Episkenew, 18 year-old Paulina Episkenew, and 46 year-old Ginny Episkenew are each facing a charge of assault with a weapon, while 27 year-old Kyle Wood is facing assault with a weapon and failure to comply with a release order charges.

All of the accused will appear in court July 9.
