(Jamie) To My Absent Co-Workers…Job Well Done

These last 6 weeks or so around the radio station have been a little different, but not unlike any other workplace that is operating on a skeletal staff. Around here the only employees you’ll find are the on-air staff. Everyone else has been hunkered down at home working from the kitchen table or a makeshift office.

The funny thing is, nothing is askew. My absent co-workers are as proficient in getting their work done from home as they would be if they were here at their desks. As far as I can tell, everyone’s been doing what they normally do, except for the location. It’s been a surprisingly smooth transition.

It’s definitely quieter here than it normally is, however, it might not be as quiet as one would think. What you have left here at the station are the people who get paid to talk, and talk we do. I’m amazed some mornings how so few people can make so much noise. It’s wonderful!

The one thing we don’t have right now is a boss breathing down our necks everyday. I haven’t talked to one person who’s not enjoying that aspect of what we’re going through. We’re all getting done what needs to be done without being told what to do.

I don’t change my daily routine whether my boss is around or not. To me it doesn’t matter. I come in at the same time every morning and I leave work at the same time every day. I don’t slack off without the boss’s direction and I don’t work any harder when he’s sitting in his office 30 feet from me. I know what I have to do and I get it done.

So we’ll just keep on doing what we’ve been doing for the last month and a half. I’ve got a feeling that it won’t be long before my co-workers are back at their desks and we’re back to normal again.

To my co-workers…jobs well done from home!
