(Jamie) Time For The Annual Card Buying Spree

The annual May and June card buying spree has hit the Lewis household. I buy more cards during those two months than I do the rest of the year.

First up this month it’s a birthday card and a Mother’s Day card. Mother’s Day is coming up on Sunday and mom’s birthday is three days later. Cards have already been purchased and dropped in the mail. Atta boy, Lewis! Forgetting mom is a cardinal sin! Remember, Don King used to have perfectly normal hair until he forgot Mother’s Day one year.

Then in June it’s more about dad. On June 9th my dad will celebrate his 91st birthday. The next day, my parents will celebrate their 70th anniversary. Then on June 21st, it’s Father’s Day. By my count, that’s 3 more cards I have to grab from the drug store. I don’t have those on today’s shopping list, but if I was smart, I’d grab them anyway.

I don’t even know how much it costs to send a card to Lethbridge. I just throw $3 worth of stamps on each envelope when I mail them out. A few years ago I got one of the cards I sent to my mom dropped back into my mailbox for insufficient postage. I don’t want that to happen again, so now I just play it safe, knowing $3 should be more than enough.

The rest of the year my card purchases are few and far between. For the next 10 months my trips to the drug store will be mainly for prescriptions!
