April was a cold month for Saskatchewan

Saskatchewan has just gone through one of its coldest Aprils.

That from Environment Canada’s Terri Lang who says some communities, especially in northern Saskatchewan, saw it several degrees cooler than it should be.

Key Lake broke an all time record as it’s monthly mean temperatures was seven degrees colder than usual coming in at -8.9 C with Meadow Lake recording its second coldest April, La Ronge its third coldest and North Battleford its sixth coldest in 79 years of record keeping

Regina was also colder than normal as it recorded its 23rd coldest April in 127 years of data with the mean temperature being .7 degrees which is just over four degrees colder than a normal April.

“Regina saw colder than usual weather at the start of the month and then weather that was almost record-breaking at the end of the month.” Lang said.  “Those first two weeks were definitely colder than usual and while it did warm up at the end of the month, it was still much cooler than it should be when you average everything out.”

As for May, we are enjoying seasonal-type weather right now, but she says some moisture is on the way and that some snow could actually fall in the central part of the province this weekend followed by below-normal temperatures leading into the long weekend.
