Colin Lovequist is on the road to Glenavon today as part of our virtual country cookouts. This means I (Cody) will have the May 6th edition of Number 1’s at 1. Coming up on today’s show:
Marty Robbins was into his second week at number 1 with his 14th chart topper. “My Woman, My Woman, My Wife” would go on to win him a Grammy a year later in 1971.
Carroll Baker would find herself at the top the Canadian country chart this week in 1975 with “I’ve Never Been This Far Before.”
May 6th, 1978 Dolly Parton started a two week ride at number 1 with a song she wrote. Not only did “It’s All Wrong, But It’s All Right” go to number 1 for her, it was also featured in the movie Norma Rae starring Sally Field, who won an academy award for it. The song would be Dolly Parton’s 7th number 1 hit as a solo artist.
Dan Seals was into this 3rd and final week at number 1 on the country chart on this day in 1990 with Love on Arrival. This song became his longest running number 1 hit.
The number 1 album on the Canadian charts this week back in 1996 belonged to Shania Twain. She really dominated the Canadian charts those years, especially the albums chart and it was her album “The Woman in Me” that would go on to give her her first number 1 hit south of the border, “Any Man of Mine.”
We’ll have these hits and so much more at 1:00 this afternoon!
