Leafs sign former Pats Captain Adam Brooks to two year extension

Former Regina Pats captain Adam Brooks is staying with the Toronto Maple Leafs organization for at least two more years.

The club announced Thursday morning they’ve signed Brooks to a two-year, two-way contract worth $725,000 per season.

Brooks, who had three assists in seven games with the Leafs earlier this year,  including his first-ever point in his hometown of Winnipeg says his time in Regina certainly got him ready for the next level.

“They were five years that really shaped me as a person and a player.” Brooks said to 620 CKRM’s Mitchell Blair. “They were five of the best years of my life.  My time there was very special.”

The 24-year-old says getting some NHL games under his belt this year was nice. He says it was a lot easier because his old head coach with the Marlies, Sheldon Keefe, was behind the bench when he made his professional debut.

“I’ve put in a lot of work over the last two years making my game better.” Brooks said. “Having Sheldon behind the bench made things a lot more comfortable because he knew what I could do and how I could help them succeed.

Since being drafted by Toronto in the 4th round in 2016, Brooks has played 147 games with the AHL’s Toronto Marlies, picking up 38 goals and 41 assists.  During his time in Regina, he had 335 points in 317 games and was the WHL’s leading scorer in the 2015-16 season when he registered 120 points.
