Unifor lets farmers know about plans to disrupt their access to fuel

Unifor 594 has written an open letter to farmers.

That letter details the ongoing situation they have had in their lockout  at the Co-Op Refinery with Federated Co-Op that started December 5 after they served 48 hours strike notice.

It also states they will be disrupting access to fuel as spring seeding continues.

We are in a position where disrupting the flow of fuel to farmers during seeding is the only option we have to get back to work. We do not want to do that, but our options are limited when the company does not want a deal. Feeding and providing for our families is the most important thing in the world to us. There is little that we won’t do when FCL threatens our ability to do that. I’m certain you feel the same way,” the letter states.

APAS showed some concern earlier this month after union members conducted  a picket line at a Co-Op farm fuel site in Moose Jaw.

President Todd Lewis says farmers have a very short window to seed the 2020 crop and many farmers are racing to finish the 2019 harvest. In a world of COVID-19 and food supply concerns, he says the last thing farmers need now is to have seeding compromised by not being able to get fuel.

The letter also asks farmers to contact their MLA’s and tell them it is time for this dispute to come to an end.
