RCMP officer injured by gunshot near Biggar

RCMP say an officer suffered non life-threatening injuries after being shot in a rural area north of Biggar.

Just before midnight on Thursday, officers were about to conduct a search warrant at a residence in a rural area 27 kilometres north of Biggar, when shots were fired in their direction and the officer was hit.

RCMP say none of their members fired any shots during the incident.

Police still executed the warrant, and an man and woman were both taken into custody.

The injured officer was assessed by local EMS and no further treatment was required.

Members of the public can expect to see an increased police presence in the area as the investigation unfolds.

RCMP say more details will be released in the future.

Biggar is about 94 kilometres west of Saskatoon.
