SHA says investigation into Pasqua Hospital COVID-19 case shows no outbreak is happening

The Saskatchewan Health Authority says it has finished its investigation into a COVID-19 case at Regina’s Pasqua Hospital and has determined the case is one that is community-acquired and that no outbreak needs to be declared.

The Saskatchewan Union of Nurses had been calling for an outbreak declaration to be made because the patient in question had contact with over 70 others with over half of those contacts being close ones.

The S-H-A says all testing of staff and contacts have come back negative.

The news comes at the same time as the province annouces there is one new case of COVID-19 in Saskatchewan bringing the provincial total to 591.  That new case is in the Saskatoon region.

25 have recovered bringing the provincial total to 433. The last time Saskatchewan there were that many recoveries in a 24-hour period was  April 10 when there were 21 recoveries.

Eight remain in hospital with two of those eight in Regina.  Three are in intensive care–all in Saskatoon.

There is also good news in the Far North region as the S-H-A says an outbreak declaration at the long term care facility in the La Loche Health Centre is over.

Medical Health Officer Dr. Rim Zayed is declaring  the outbreak over after the standard 28 day period passed without a new positive case of COVID-19 in long term care.

Despite this, community precautions remain in place and  exhaustive work continues as both the Health Authority and local community leaders work together to curtail the spread of COVID-19 in the area. This includes extensive door to door testing, mobile testing, and aggressive contact tracing.
