BHP makes big donation to Sask. Food Banks

The battle to fight hunger during the COVID-19 pandemic is getting a huge boost from BHP, who announced they will be giving over $100,000 to food banks around Saskatchewan.

Ken Smith, Manager of Corporate Affairs, says that the company decided to make the huge donation because they felt the need to help out.

“We feel it’s important, as an organization, to have the ability and capability, during this time to help out where we can,” said Smith. “Especially providing some support for those less fortunate in the province, as we know there have been broad impacts from the COVID-19 pandemic.”

The donation includes $50,000 to the Food Banks of Saskatchewan organization, which oversees all 32 food banks in the province.

Smith says that the company is also providing $30,000 to the Saskatoon Food Bank, $10,000 to the Humboldt Food Bank, and $5,000 to each the Wynyard and Lanigan Food Banks.

Smith says people can help out by going to the Food Banks of Saskatchewan Facebook or Twitter page and sharing and retweeting the hashtag #bhpfeedingsask. BHP will donate $1 from every share or retweet up to $5,000 to Food Banks of Saskatchewan.
