Number 1’s at 1 – May 20

Colin Lovequist is on the road to Avonlea today as part of our virtual country cookouts, which means I’ll have today’s edition of Number 1’s at 1. Coming up on today’s show:

Charley Pride will kick today’s show off with “Does my ring Hurt Your Finger” from his number one album on this day in 1968 titled “The Country Way.”

Freddy Fender had the number one album on this day in 1975 with “Before the Next Teardrop Falls.” From that album came two very big songs for him, “Wasted Days and Wasted Night,” and the title track.

The Oak Ridge Boys had their ninth number one album this week in 1984 with “Deliver,” which included the songs “I Guess it Never Hurts to Hurt Sometimes,” and “Ozark Mountain Jubilee.”

“If I Had You” by Alabama was at number one on this day in 1989.

Jon Pardi was born on this day in 1985. He landed his first number 1 in August 2016 with “Head of Boots.”

Mark Chesnutt landed his 6th number one hit on this day in 1995 with “Gonna Get a Life.” It would stay at the top for one week.

The number 1 selling Canadian country single this week back in 2016 belonged to Chad Brownlee with “I hate You for it.”
