Over 500 cans of beer seized by La Loche RCMP in roadside checkstop

Three people are facing charges after allegedly trying to sell alcohol at an inflated price in La Loche.

RCMP say that between 7 p.m and 10 p.m on Wednesday night, officers were stationed outside of the community in a checkstop to locate impaired drivers and prevent the illegal possession of drugs and alcohol.

Officers had received information that some La Loche residents had left the community to buy alcohol with a plan to re-sell it with further information suggesting a 24-pack of beer had recently been resold for over $200.

As a result of the Check Stop, officers seized a large amount of liquor, coolers, and beer from five vehicles, which included the following:

· 534 cans of beer,

· 24 bottles of beer,

· 248 cans of various coolers,

· 1 4 L box of Royal Red,

· 3 1.75 L bottles of hard alcohol

· 6 750 ml bottles hard Alcohol

The government-owned liquor store in La Loche has been closed since May 10 in an effort to prevent the spread of COVID-19
