Kipling honouring 2020 grads with banners

The town of Kipling is recognizing their class of 2020 by displaying banners for each graduate throughout the community.

The idea came about as the graduation committee debated ways to celebrate grade 12 graduates during the COVID-19 pandemic which has made graduation celebrations impossible.

Principal Dave Bircher says the execution of this was a collaborative approach between the school, grad committee and the town.

“We had thought of some signage, or banners that we could put up prior to that,” said Bircher. “Our town had even reached out to us, and said we know what’s happening with COVID-19, and if we  can help out in any way with grad or anything, just let us know. Once we had the banner idea and we felt we wanted to move forward with it, we contacted the town and they were very helpful.”

Bircher says Kipling’s grad has been tentatively moved to the fall, but if public health officials say it’s still unsafe, it will move to a virtual format.
