Anyone who reads this blog on a daily basis will know that there is one thing I can’t stand…people who have absolutely no manners. I love to write bogs acknowledging friendly, outgoing people I run across. They’re out there. Unfortunately, there are a lot of people who aren’t so friendly and make their way into my blogs on a frequent basis as well.

Yesterday I was doing some running around and I went into a store that had a set of double doors that you had to manually open. That in itself seemed kind of odd. It seems like every business has automatic doors that swing open the minute you step in front of them. When I got to the door there was a young man right behind me, so I held the first door for him, and did the same at the second set of doors. I was waiting for a simple “thank you,” which never came, so I turned around, pointed and said, “You’re welcome.” The guy just looked at me like I had a screw loose and walked around me. Wow. Here’s guy who could learn a thing or two.

It amazes me the lack of common courtesy that seems to run rampant nowadays. Here at work I will say good morning to absolutely everyone, everyday. I can’t stand it when someone will walk by the desk I’m working at without even a simple hello. I’ll greet most everyone I run into on the street or at the grocery store or anywhere else with a smile and a good morning. That’s how I was raised. It’s really not that tough to do.

You might be thinking, “Hey, maybe that person who doesn’t say hello is having a bad day.” Maybe they are. Does that mean they can’t bark out a simple “good morning?” I’ve had a lot of bad days, but I still acknowledge people. If you can’t even do that, you’re not having a bad day, you’re just a rude person!

If you haven’t done it before, try it today. Say good morning or good afternoon to everyone you run across through the day.

And if someone holds a door for you, for goodness sakes, be sure to say thank you. It could be me holding that door and, you never know, you just might be the topic of my next blog.
