Sale of Rider masks benefits two charities

The mâmawêyatitân centre’s Chili for Children in Regina and CHEP Good Food in Saskatoon each received a cheque for $15,000 from the Saskatchewan Roughriders and the Saskatchewan Roughrider Foundation on Friday.

The money comes from the proceeds of sale of Rider masks.

“Masks went on sale to the public in early May and received an overwhelming response from Rider Nation, who we know are always willing to help our Saskatchewan community,” said Roughrider Foundation Executive Director Cindy Fuchs. “Our community partners are extremely important to us and we are committed to supporting them and helping them through these unprecedented times.”

Before the COVID-19 pandemic, Chili for Children was providing hot lunches to 850 children three times a week, preparing approximately 96,000 meals per school year, and transporting the food to three schools in the North Central neighbourhood in Regina. During the pandemic, Chili for Children has pivoted to providing weekly lunch packs to children, families and individuals in need.

In Saskatoon, CHEP Good Food works with children, families and communities to improve access to nutritious food and promote food security. With the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, CHEP swiftly introduced the Good Food Delivery program and the School Family Lunch Box for weekly deliveries to their families while also mobilizing on behalf of Saskatoon seniors.
