CN Rail reports record movement of grain in May

CN Rail has set a record amount of grain shipments in May, the third consecutive month for record movement of grain.

Executive vice president Sean Finn says CN moved over 2.5 million tons of Western grain in May, exceeding the May 2014 record of 2.4 million tons.

“April was a strong month, and then in May, it was an all-time record month for us. It outpaced the three-year average by almost 20 per cent,” shares Finn.

So far this crop year, Finn says CN has moved 23 million tons of Western grain to market despite several setbacks, including a November strike and winter rail blockade.

“We and the supply chain – this is a team sport – were there to meet the demand and move the product to Prince Rupert, Vancouver and Thunder Bay in a way that benefited Western Canadian producers.”

He says CN is in a good position to move grain to market for the rest of the year.
