The provincial government has announced an investment of over $80 million into long-term care facilities in Saskatchewan.
The investment includes new long-term care facilities in Grenfell and La Ronge and more than $7 million in priority renewal projects for over 50 long-term care facilities in the province.
Rural and remote health minister Warren Kaeding says the facility in Grenfell will be a 33-bed unit while the La Ronge one will see 80 beds.
Another seven million will also be spent on over 80 projects at 51 long-term care homes to make the facility better. These projects include water and sewer line replacements, upgrades to the heating and air conditioning units and floor and window replacements.
The opposition says despite the announcement there are still concerns.
Ryan Meili is glad to see the government deal with the crumbling infrastructure at many long-term care homes, but he adds understaffing remains a huge, chronic problem that leads to inadequate care.
