Regina airport hopes to see people flying again soon

Activity at the Regina airport basically remains at a standstill with very few people coming in and out.  It has been that way since the pandemic started in March as people stopped flying.
It has put the airport in a very perilous situation financially with cash reserves being depleted more and more each day.
Airport CEO James Bogusz knows the day will come when air travel will resume at the pace it was at, but he says the airlines and government need to make that consumer confidence happen.
“I don’t want to see the cost of travel dramatically increase because we have to fund an airport in the future without enough revenue,” said Bogusz. “We need to see that underlying demand come back, and that’s really going to come, from our perspective, right from Ottawa, to tell Canadians that it’s okay to travel again.”
Passenger volume at the airport right now is about five percent of what it was before COVID-19 hit.
