Sask. farmers scouting fields for hail damage

Many Saskatchewan farmers are assessing crop damage from weekend hail storms.

Provincial crop extension specialist Sara Tetland says hail ranged in size from pea to golfball in many areas.

The Canadian Crop Hail Association says some hailstones were tennis ball in size.

Tetland says the worst hit area was in the southwest around Assiniboia, Limerick and Gravelbourg.

Tetland says it takes a couple days to determine the extent of crop damage from hail.

She adds the hail damage also put crops at higher risk for plant diseases.
