Regina’s wastewater plant finds heavy metal used by Co-Op Refinery in it

A heavy metal that the Co-Op refinery uses during maintenance has found its way into the city’s wastewater system.

Vanadium was detected on June 26 with a sample taken two days later.

In a release, the city says while preliminary results from tests taken had indicated the heavy metal was concentrated “above provincial reportable standards,”, another test today showed a low risk to Wascana Creek

The refinery says it has found where the high levels of vanadium were coming from and is now hauling that wastewater off-site to a specialized disposal facility.
