Serious crash near Buffalo Pound Lake closes Highway 2 Saturday afternoon

Some people heading to Buffalo Pound Lake had  to take a detour for a few hours on Saturday afternoon because of a two-vehicle accident that closed both lanes of Highway 2 north of the provincial park.

Moose Jaw RCMP say an initial investigation into the accident shows  a southbound truck tried to avoid a southbound SUV in front of it, which was slowing down to make a turn. The truck  veered into oncoming traffic and collided with a northbound car. As a result of the collision, two adult females travelling in the northbound car suffered what were described as being serious injuries. One woman was transported to hospital in Moose Jaw by local EMS and the other was transported via STARS Air Ambulance to hospital in Regina. No other injuries were reported.

Some on the scene helped until emergency responders arrived as some nurses, a paramedic and a firefighter were already assisting the injured and were helping block the road to ensure the safety of other motorists and those on scene.

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the collision.
