One post-secondary institution in Saskatchewan is offering some in-person classes this fall.
Great Plains College, with campuses in Swift Current, Kindersley and Warman, along with locations in Biggar, Maple Creek and Rosetown, will be delivering classes as a blended model of both online and in-person classes for a variety of their courses.
President and CEO David Keast says a lot of their programming is hands-on.
“We don’t see the possibility of delivering programming entirely online, ” Keast said. “If possible, we’ll want to include a face-to-face component in applied learning situations where that learning is done more effectively in a face-to-face environment.
“Let’s say, for example, labs in trades programs.”
While offering a blended approach to classes, Keast says it will be up to potential students whether in-person training for possibly half of their classes would be worth relocating for.
“Most often, moving to Swift Current or one of our other campus locations, like Warman for example, which is only 10 minutes out of Saskatoon, those students will commute,” Keast said. “Other students who want to attend the Swift Current campus by-and-large re-locate, and so that’s an option that still has to be left to the student.”
The campuses across Saskatchewan are currently open by appointment only.
