Number 1’s at 1 – July 23

Coming up on today’s edition:

Red Sovine started his second week at number one on this day in 1976 with “Teddy Bear.” Two “sequels” to the song were recorded after. “Little Joe” by Red Sovine and “Teddy Bear’s Last Ride” by Diana Williams.

Willie Nelson and Merle Haggard reached number one together on July 23rd, 1983 with “Pancho and Lefty.”

Anne Murray landed her eighth number one on the Hot Country Singles Chart this week back in 1984 with “Just Another Woman in Love.” It was the third single from her “A little good news” album, which got her the 1984 CMA Album of the Year Award.

Vern Gosdin got his second career number one on this day in 1988 with “Set em up Joe,” a tribute to Ernest Tubb who had passed away four years earlier.

Alan Jackson reached number one 26 years ago with an old Eddie Cochrane song, “Summertime Blues.” Coincidentally, his album “Who I Am” also reached number one on this day in 1994.

Justin Moore climbed to number one in July 2011 with “I Wish Heaven Wasn’t so Far Away.”

We’ll celebrate a couple birthdays today as well. Happy 49th birthday to Alison Krauss and happy 30th birthday to Neil Perry of The Band Perry.
