The hot and humid conditions on Thursday meant it was another afternoon and evening of active weather for parts of the province, including the city of Regina.
Shortly after 9:00 p.m. a severe thunderstorm warning was issued for the city.
Heavy rain and intense lightning passed over for about 15 to 20 minutes, but according to Environment Canada’s Rose Carlsen, wind gusts were the main concern.
“We had a couple of reports of downed power lines and grain bins south of the city, besides that we had a wind gust at Yellow Grass reach 86 km/h, at the airport in Regina we saw wind gusts reach as high as 89 km/h,” Carlsen said.
Carlsen said Regina only saw between 15 and 20 mm’s of rain, but it seemed like much more because of how quickly it came down.
On Environment Canada’s website it says Regina saw 23 mm’s of rainfall over the past 24 hours.

A tornado warning was also issued in the Meadow lake region, but Carlsen says they have no reports of any touchdowns at this time.
The potential for thunderstorm activity on Friday is low for most of the province however Carlsen says if some do develop there is the potential for one or two to become severe in nature.
The daytime high for Regina on Friday is 29 C with a humidex value of 35.
