A total of $15 million is being invested by the City to replace and upgrade the storm sewer system in the north central area.
It is hoped that these upgrades will prevent ponding and flooding during large storms which lead to basement and street flooding.
The project will reduce ponding impacts along Athol Street and along 2nd Avenue, and surface restorations will reduce the amount of potholes to ensure rainwater is able to flow to the drains and catch basins.
Phase one of the three-year project will begin this week wtih work starting along the North storm channel working south through Pony Park and crossing under the CN Rail tracks.
The work will take place on approximately 24 blocks within the area.
