Market analyst sees rising prices for durum

A market analyst says canola prices may show some softening with the approach of harvest.

ProMarket Communications president Errol Anderson says there have been some international sales of Canola in recent months, but a large U.S. soybean crop may depress oilseed prices this fall.

Anderson says COVID-19 has prompted more people to stay home and eat pasta, pushing up demand for durum wheat.

He says durum prices could see an increase after harvest.

He adds dryness in Russia could also support prices for red spring wheat.

Anderson says barley prices will improve on rising demand from the cattle feedlot industry and offshore markets after taking a dip at harvest.

He also remains optimistic about pulse crop prices later this fall.
