Moose Jaw Police on scene of train collision Wednesday morning

UPDATE – Moose Jaw Police say there is no threat to the community after a train collision at the CP Rail yard early Wednesday morning. The rail cars in question have since been removed from the scene.

At 5:30 a.m., police were called to the CP rail yard on the 1700 block of Coteau Street West after a report of a locomotive on fire. Police said there was a concern that some rail cars were carrying hazardous materials and posed a risk to nearby residents.

Moose Jaw police cordoned off the area and began to evacuate residences within an 800-metre radius.

CP personnel and the fire department helped remove all loaded rail cars from the area at 7:00 a.m. Firefighters managed to control the blaze and determined there was no longer a risk to the public.

Residents have since been notified to return home.
