Right from the noon hour on Wednesday, severe thunderstorm activity was present in eastern and southeastern Saskatchewan.
One area in particular saw significant rotation in a storm which prompted Environment Canada to issue a tornado warning for areas just south of Indian Head down towards Francis.
Meteorologist Kyle McAulay said as of Thursday morning they have no confirmed reports of any touchdowns.
“Yeah we did have the tornado warning out for just south of Indian Head, and no confirmed reports of any confirmed tornadoes yet, we did confirm a wall cloud yesterday and we issued the warning because sometimes wall clouds can produce tornadoes, but not always,” McAulay said.
McAulay says they did however receive reports of tennis ball sized in Nut Mountain and quarter sized hail in Lumsden and areas just outside northwest Regina.
Looks like a near miss for Regina on what could have been a very expensive hailstorm. Core will just miss Lakewood in the NW. VIL from Glasgow MT radar 300 km away is jacked #yqr #skstorm pic.twitter.com/MkneN9cunD

McAulay adds it’s expected to be a much more quiet day on Thursday after all the right ingredients came together at the right time on Wednesday.
“There was a low pressure system that stretched down most of Saskatchewan, that on top of quite a bit of moisture which is energy for storms and with the winds aligned the way they were they allowed storms to rotate and quickly become severe in nature.”
