The Saskatchewan government has announced 15 million dollars will be provided to develop new technologies in agriculture.
Agriculture minister David Marit says funds will be invested through Innovation Saskatchewan targeted at agtech companies needing venture capital.
Marit says the funds will be used to enhance growth in crop production through new equipment, technology and improved seed varieties.
Marit says the province wants to be a global force in developing agriculture technology.
He says global food demand is expected to rise 70 percent by 2050 and the investment will help farmers gain a competitive edge for future demand.
The 15 million dollar provincial investment is expected to leverage millions more from private investors.
