There is still a tremendous sense of anxiety amongst Saskatchewan’s teachers about what is going to happen when classes resume in just a couple of weeks time.
Saying inadequate measures are in place, some are talking about not working because of safety issues they face with options being looked at to reinforce their stance.
Saskatchewan Teachers Federation President Patrick Maze says it’s a difficult situation.
“In a pandemic, we don’t know exactly where the best mitigation strategies are,” said Maze. “I think that school divisions are trying a few different things. Ultimately, it would be nice to have better planning from government, or direct funding that could be implemented.”
Maze wonders with all the uncertainty if perhaps the government shouldn’t look at pushing back the start of the school year by a few days or weeks.
The government has said additional measures will be announced soon to ensure no teacher is asked to perform work that is “unusually dangerous”.
