Disappointment in Swift Current after funding for two projects denied

Swift Current has been told they have been unsuccessful in applications for funding for two projects through a federal/provincial “Investing In Canada Infrastructure Grant Program”.

The money was to help with a proposed integrated leisure facility and wastewater colletion and expansion upgrades which had the support of many in the southwestern part of the province.

Mayor Denis Perreault is disappointed that they have been denied as a lot of effort was put into both applications.

Perreault says money available is what the problem was with the money that Ottawa was to come through with not being there.

“In speaking with the provincial government, there just wasn’t the funds coming from the feds that they first thought so our projects were unsuccessful. “Perreault said. “While acknowledging this is a setback, we will continue working with the provincial government to get the funding needed. The plan is not to move on, but move forward.”

Perreault says both projects would be big for not only his city, but southwestern Saskatchewan. He says dialogue will continue with the message to governments being the southwest should not be overlooked when it comes to help with major capital projects as other areas of the province have received assistance so his area should as well.
