An inmate was declared dead at the Regina Correctional Centre at approximately 1:20 a.m. on Sunday, August 16. He was found unresponsive in his cell.

The Ministry of Corrections and Policing will be conducting an internal investigation and working with the RCMP and the Coroners Service as they complete their own investigations.

Information from the provincial government on Monday afternoon confirmed the death is not related to COVID-19. Next of kin have been notified.

This is the third time since July 9 that an inmate has died at the correctional centre.
