Near collision leads to weapons charges

On August 13th, at approximately 5:20 pm, Regina Police received a report of a weapons offence involving a firearm on the 1300 block of Argyle Street.

A near collision between two vehicles at the intersection of Argyle and 7th Avenue led to one of the drivers to honk their horn to notify the other driver to stop. The other driver then pulled out a firearm and pointed it at the occupants of the vehicle that honked the horn.

Investigation by the RPS led to the seizure of the suspect vehicle. A search warrant was executed at a home on the 3800 block 20th Avenue, where police located a firearm, ammunition, a large amount of cash, and evidence of drug trafficking.

30-year-old Mursal Abukar Hagi has been charged with pointing a firearm, careless storage of a firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a restricted firearm with ammo, tampering with the serial number of a firearm, 2 counts of possessing a firearm contrary to a prohibition order, possession of a weapon, possession of proceeds obtained by crime, and failure to comply with a release order.

Hagi made his first appearance in court Monday morning.
