Harvest is getting started in many parts of Saskatchewan, and SGI wants to make sure drivers and farmers moving equipment are safe.
SGI’s Tyler McMurchy says collisions with farm equipment are rare, but they do happen.
He says in 2019, there were 23 collisions in Saskatchewan between farm equipment and other vehicles resulting in 8 injuries and 2 deaths.
McMurchy says drivers should give farm equipment plenty of space, and slow down.
He says patience is key.
“Farmers are usually transporting their machinery from one field to another so we don’t expect that they’ll be on the road for a long period of time,” said McMurchy. “Even if you don’t have an opportunity to pass safely just understand you won’t be behind them for that long of a distance.”
