Rebellion Brewing seeing mixed reviews after making masks mandatory during COVID-19 pandemic

A mandatory mask policy at Regina’s Rebellion Brewing has, like many other businesses, been met with mixed emotions and in some cases anger.

Rebellion President and CEO Mark Heise, said after a few more weeks they feel masks will be mandated either in Regina or all of Saskatchewan, and they wanted to take the lead and get a head start.

“I feel pretty confident that within two to four weeks it will be mandated here, whether that be in Regina or all of Saskatchewan, and it will eventually be the same old same old, we just wanted to get a head start on it and get our staff and customers comfortable with it,” Heise said.

Heise said the majority of customers are supportive of the policy, but some have gone as far as to yell and swear at staff when being told they need to have a mask on.

‘We’re obviously not in the business of upsetting people and losing customers, that’s not what we’re trying to do,” he said. “With this we’re trying to ensure our long term viability, and as I said I feel pretty confident that within two to four weeks it will be mandated here to some degree.”

Masks do not need to be worn once sitting at tables that are already placed more than six feet apart, only when walking to and from tables, the bar and washrooms.

As usual Rebellion is looking forward to a fall line up with a handful of new beers, including one called the Cat’s got the Cream Ale and a Rhubarb Crisp beer.
