The ministry of Justice and the Court of Queen’s Bench have both switch to the Judicial Scheduling, Tracking and Amalgamated Reporting System, or J-STAR.
Noel Busse from the ministry says it’s hard to quantify how much this will help with scheduling processes.
“We have some kind of separate systems, in some cases paper-based systems, that weren’t really efficient and hadn’t really kept up at the time,” said Busse. “This is taking those systems and amalgamating them into the J-STAR system, which we’re hoping will create more efficiencies in the Court of Queen’s Bench, and ultimately reduce time to trial, and just make the justice system more accessible and easier to use for everybody.”
This system is also supposed to help with scheduling changes, whereas now it can be a lengthy process within the court system and justice ministry.
