The City of Regina announced changes to its Big Blue Bin Program Thursday.
Starting September 1st, people will be able to recycle the same products allowed in their curbside bins in Big Blue Bins around the city.
Kurtis Doney, Director of Water, Waste, and Environment says the expanded program will help create a greener Regina.
“This allows residents to drop off any extra recycling that may not fit in their blue cart,” said Doney. “Helping to keep even more material out of our landfill.”
Along with paper and cardboard as before, people will now be able to recycle things like plastic packaging, metal containers and foil, beverage containers, and coffee and chip cans.
Doney says the city wanted to expand the Big Blue Bin Program to help make recycling easier for everyone.
“One of the reasons we wanted to expand the Big Blue Bin service is that we’re really looking to simplify recycling and encourage residents to continue the great work we’re doing of recycling in Regina.,” said Doney.
On top of expanding what can be placed in Big Blue Bins, the city plans on placing more bins around Regina.
