Harvest advancing rapidly across southern Sask.

The combines are rolling across the southern Saskatchewan grainbelt.

The crop extension specialist in Weyburn, Sherri Roberts, estimates harvest at around 40 percent complete in parts of the southeast.

She says insects have caused some crop loss.

Roberts expects above average production for some producers but says sporadic rainfall will mean reduced yields in some areas.

The crop extension specialist in Swift Current, Shannon Chant, says there have been some wildfires because of the hot dry weather.

Chant says the southwest will see a wide range of yields due to sporadic rain.
