20th annual Queen City Marathon goes virtual

Another event forced to go virtual thanks to COVID-19 is the annual Queen City Marathon.

However that has not stopped over 3,100 from registering for one or multiple of the various races available .

This year, QCM’s 20th, people sign up and then run their own route anytime before the end of the month.

Race Director Shawn Weimer says while it’s good to get as creative as possible with your route, there are a few important tips to remember when planning, especially if you’re running a longer distance.

” I think the things that people want to think about when they are coming up with their course is to really think about the support they’re going to need for the distance they are doing,” Weimer said. “So because there is no true race course this year where we’re supporting it with course marshall volunteers, police, water stations and washrooms, you’re going to want to have those things accounted for,” Weimer said.

Weimer says participants have the option to run numerous races including a 5K, 10K or half or full marathon.
