Student at Briercrest College tests positive for COVID-19

A student at Briercrest College has tested positive for COVID-19.

The patient, along with one close contact, are in self-isolation on campus.

Spokesperson Matt Blackaby says they have students from Canada for in-person classes, and have been working with the Saskatchewan health Authority on their safe restart to school.

“Part of that has been requiring that all students, staff and faculty be tested prior to their start here at Briercrest for the fall,” Blackaby said. “As well as requiring a daily health screening check-in that we’ve developed to keep track of people as they come and go from campus.”

Blackaby says international students are not allowed on campus this year.

“(There is) a mandatory requirement of masks heightened requirement here in this early part of returning to campus, but throughout the year we will be ensuring these protocols are in place.”

More measures include reducing dorm capacity by 50 percent. Blackaby says he cannot say what province the student came to Breircrest from.

Blackaby says the complete return to campus plan is on the school’s website.
