Black Lake RCMP able to rescue Saskatoon man after canoe trip gone wrong

RCMP say a 26-year-old Saskatoon man is expected to make a full recovery after being injured while canoeing in the far north with his dog.

On Wednesday afternoon Black Lake RCMP received an SOS call from a GPS stating a person was injured and had lost most of their equipment while canoeing northeast of Black Lake.

After learning the man was weakening due to his injuries and that temperatures were dropping below zero, police searched for a group that would be able to rescue the man immediately.

Finally a helicopter was able to hover over the man’s location while a rescue worker was lowered down to stabilize him.

Just before midnight the man and his dog were safely air lifted to EMS and transported to hospital.

Police did not say how the man was hurt.

Black Lake is located about 650 kilometres north of La Ronge.
