CN launching awareness campaign around rail safety

CN Rail is launching a campaign to raise awareness about Rail Safety.

The deputy chief of police for CN Rail, Shawn Will, says there have been four serious crashes this year in Saskatchewan at CN Rail intersections.

“Well for most people, they probably don’t realize it happens a lot more than we’d like it to happen. Of course, it is a serious problem,” said Will. “In the province of Saskatchewan alone, up until the end of August this year, there’s been a total of four incidents within Saskatchewan, and out of those incidents, one has resulted in a serious injury, and one resulted in a fatality.”

Will says the goal is to reduce train-vehicle collisions to zero through education, enforcement and engineering.

He says CN police are empowered to enforce highway traffic acts and trespass laws around rail lines.
