APAS wants farm issues raised during provincial election campaign

Farm supports and rural infrastructure are among the issues APAS is hoping will be discussed during the current provincial election campaign.

APAS president Todd Lewis has released a set of proposals designed to get candidates from all political parties thinking about how best to support farming.

He says farm business risk programs need improvement, particularly agristability.

He adds farmers need to be recognized for farming practices which reduce greenhouse gases.

APAS sees other farm priorities include rural infrastructure, particularly internet and cell phone service, a review of surface rights legislation, and improving roads and short line railroads.
