The University of Regina is confirming a one percent increase in students enrolled for the fall semester, marking a 12th consecutive year of enrolment growth.
16,664 students are enrolled, compared to 16,501 students in 2019.
Interim University President Thomas Chase says there are some real areas of strength being highlighted in the numbers.
“There’s real growth right now in the faculty of education, there’s a tremendous amount of growth among self-declared First Nations and Métis students in Saskatchewan,” said Chase. “We think that part of that might be, given that we’re offering so much of the Zoom remote delivery, we’re able to reach people that would otherwise not be able to come into the city, or come to in-person classes.”
Chase is also pleased to announce the U of R is one of a few post-secondary schools in Canada that will allow for international students to come into the country for school, but Chase says many students will likely stay where they are to continue their schooling virtually.
