Regina police make arrest after bear spray attack at Cornwall Centre

An 18-year-old man has been charged after using what appeared to be bear spray in an incident on Tuesday afternoon at the Cornwall Centre in Regina.

Regina police received a call about the attack shortly after noon on Tuesday. A report from the Regina Police Service says a number of people were affected by the bear spray, however no one appeared to require medical treatment.

Early information suggested the spray was directed intentionally at another man and that the suspect ran from the north doors of the mall heading west on Saskatchewan Drive. The victim who was sprayed left the mall and police do not know his identity at this time.

Officers were able to collect enough information for a suspect description and the direction of travel. Police located the man walking on the 1900 block of Halifax Street and arrested him without further incident on St. John Street.

Eighteen-year-old Gerald Andrew Anaquod of Regina faces charges of assault with a weapon (bear spray) and carrying a concealed weapon. He was released on conditions and will appear in court on November 25.
