This week’s snowcover will benefit some harvest work in southeast Sask.

A provincial crops official says this week’s snowcover will benefit some late maturing crops in southeast Saskatchewan.

The crop extension specialist in Weyburn, Sherri Roberts, says the snowcover will assist farmers who still have sunflowers to harvest.

There have been several field fires during harvest this fall and Roberts says the snow will reduce the threat.

Roberts expects the sunflower harvest will be completed in the next week or so.

She says harvest is virtually complete across the southeast.

She says the southeast needs moisture for next year’s spring seeding.
